It's not one thing. That's the thing about generalised anxiety that's hardest to explain to people who don't have it.
It's not that I'm afraid of flying, or social situations, or a specific thing I can name and work around. It's everything. The unanswered message. The slightly odd tone in an email. The plan that might go wrong. The silence that means something. The change that could lead to something bad.
I am vigilant at all times. My nervous system is permanently scanning for threat. It is exhausting in a way that is hard to convey because from the outside I just look like a very organised person who worries a lot.
I've been managing this for years. I have tools. But I'm curious — for those of you with generalised anxiety, what has made the biggest difference? Not cured it, I know that's not on the table. But what has turned down the volume?
