The therapy habit that changed my mornings — and then my whole day

My therapist gave me a small exercise three months ago and it has quietly rebuilt how I start every day.

Before getting out of bed, three questions. Not written down unless I want to, just held consciously:
1. What is my body telling me right now?
2. What am I carrying into today?
3. What do I need from myself today?

This sounds simple enough to be useless. I thought so too.

But here is what changed: I started arriving at my day with awareness instead of momentum. I used to lurch into mornings — phone first, to-do list second, coffee third — and wonder why I felt behind and anxious by 9am before anything had even happened.

Now I know, before the day starts, whether I'm carrying anxiety from yesterday, whether my body needs gentleness or movement, whether today I need to protect my energy or whether I have reserves.

Some days the answers are uncomfortable. Some days I don't want to hear what my body is saying. But knowing is always better than the alternative — careering through a day disconnected from myself and then crashing into the wall at 7pm wondering why I'm depleted.

Small things, done consistently, do change things. This one did for me.
